Hikvision iDS-2CD8A46G0-IZ/UH — 4MP Ultra-Low-Temperature DeepinView Moto Varifocal Bullet (Boots and Runs from −60 °C)

Hikvision DeepinView · Ultra-Low Temperature · −60 °C Cold-Rated · 4MP Bullet · 140 dB LightFighter · 12 VDC Only

The Hikvision iDS-2CD8A46G0-IZ/UH is a 4MP DeepinView bullet built around a single design goal: to power up, keep running and produce usable footage in ambient temperatures as low as −60 °C (−76 °F). That is a long way past the −30 °C / −40 °C limit where conventional Hikvision DeepinView and AcuSense models stop. Think of it as a dedicated perimeter-protection tool — it is not an ANPR camera, not an active-deterrence camera, and not an AcuSeek camera — designed for the freezing sites where ordinary cameras simply will not start.

In Australia it typically ends up in commercial cold-storage and freezer warehouses, abattoir chillers, flash-freeze tunnels in food processing, refrigerated logistics, ice rinks, alpine telecom huts and mast cabinets, ski-resort chairlift towers, mining sites in the Snowy Mountains and Tasmanian high country, LNG and industrial-gas plants, and sub-polar marine or research deployments. Inside, a 1/1.8" 4MP DarkFighter CMOS sensor is matched with LightFighter 140 dB WDR, a 2.8–12 mm motorised varifocal lens and smart IR reaching 50 m, while an integrated front-glass heater and demist function holds off ice, fog and the condensation that comes with repeated cold-warm cycling. DeepinView deep learning runs on the camera itself for line crossing, intrusion, region entrance and region exiting alarms with human-and-vehicle classification, and the AI Open Platform will host one custom detection / classification / mixed model for site-specific analytics. The housing is all metal, sealed to IP67 and rated IK10 for vandal resistance (glass window excluded). Australian stock, 3-year Australian warranty.

What This Camera Is — and What It Isn't

Positioning matters here. The iDS-2CD8A46G0-IZ/UH is a specialty cold-environment perimeter-protection camera. It handles one job exceptionally well and makes no attempt at the rest. Understanding what is deliberately absent from the spec sheet is the quickest way to avoid specifying the wrong camera for the job.

✓ Perimeter Protection at −60 °C

Deep learning on the camera handles line-crossing, intrusion, region-entrance and region-exiting alarms with human-and-vehicle classification — reliable enough for chill-room access compliance, freezer-aisle dwell-time alerts, ski-resort gate counting and alpine-base perimeter watch.

✓ Cold-Soak Cold Start

The rating covers starting up from −60 °C, not just continuing to run once sunlight has warmed the housing. If power cycles overnight at an alpine site or an unstaffed cold-store, this camera comes straight back up. Conventional cameras may sit dead until ambient climbs past −30 °C.

✓ One-Slot AI Open Platform

A single custom deep-learning model (detection, classification or mixed) can be loaded onto the camera. That suits PPE-on-personnel detection inside cold-rooms, vehicle-type classification on alpine access roads, or hi-vis detection at chairlift loading points.

✗ Not an ANPR / Plate-Recognition Camera

This model is not a number-plate camera. It carries no LPR engine, no vehicle-attribute capture, no plate blocklist/allowlist and none of the Road-Traffic-and-Vehicle-Detection feature set. Where on-camera ANPR is required, the iDS-2CD7A46G2/P-IZHSY (G2 ANPR bullet) is the model to specify.

✗ Not an Active-Deterrence Camera

There is no strobe, no built-in speaker, no built-in microphone and no two-way audio. If the camera also has to warn an intruder off with light and voice, use this unit as the perimeter sensor and add a separate AcuSense Smart Hybrid Light camera at the entry point.

✗ Not an AcuSeek-Native Camera

This model came before Hikvision's AcuSeek roll-out, so it does not supply native AcuSeek metadata (persons / plates / vehicles / animals) to the NVR. Recording and streaming over ONVIF and Hikvision ISAPI to any modern Hikvision NVR works perfectly — you simply lose plain-English natural-language search over this camera's archive.

Important Install Note — 12 VDC Only, No PoE

In a departure from most current Hikvision IP cameras, the iDS-2CD8A46G0-IZ/UH does not support PoE. With the heater working during a cold-soaked −60 °C boot, peak draw reaches 51.4 W — far more than standard 802.3af (15 W) or 802.3at (25.5 W) PoE can put out at the far end of a 100 m run. Hikvision therefore fixed the camera on 12 VDC ± 10% supplied directly through a three-core terminal block, with reverse-polarity protection included.

Plan for: a weatherproof 12 V power supply rated for at least 5 A continuous with 15–20% headroom to cover the cold-start surge, or a 24 V → 12 V step-down regulator where 24 V is being run over a long cable. Beyond 50 m, carry 24 V from the supply and buck-convert at the camera to keep voltage drop in check. On freezer-aisle and alpine jobs, use an industrial DIN-rail supply mounted inside a heated control cabinet.

iDS-2CD8A46G0-IZ/UH vs iDS-2CD7A46G2/P-IZHSY — Which DeepinView Bullet?

These are both 4MP DeepinView bullets, yet they answer completely different briefs. The iDS-2CD8A46G0-IZ/UH is the cold-environment specialist — it boots and operates at −60 °C, but leaves out plate recognition, face capture and active deterrence, and requires a local 12 VDC supply because PoE is not an option. The iDS-2CD7A46G2/P-IZHSY is the later-generation G2 ANPR bullet — it works within standard climate ranges, performs on-camera number-plate recognition with ≥98% accuracy across 124+ countries, carries the newer TPM 2.0 cyber-security baseline, and can be powered by standard PoE+ as well as 12 VDC / 24 VAC.

Best For Cold-storage facilities, freezer warehouses, abattoir chillers, alpine telecom huts, ski-resort towers, ice rinks, polar / research bases, LNG and cryogenic plants — sites where ambient routinely falls below −30 °C. Standard outdoor Australian ANPR — boomgates, council carparks, freeway off-ramps, marina entries, freight yards — anywhere ambient stays in the −40 °C to +65 °C range and on-camera number-plate recognition matters.

Recording NVRs — Any Modern Hikvision NVR Works

The iDS-2CD8A46G0-IZ/UH feeds any current Hikvision NVR via ONVIF Profile S/G/T and Hikvision ISAPI. Because the camera generates no AcuSeek metadata, there is nothing AcuSeek-specific or DeepinMind-specific required at the recorder end. On multi-site cold-supply-chain, abattoir or alpine rollouts that also include AcuSeek-capable cameras, the VPro AcuSeek and DeepinMind NVRs remain a strong choice — they record the cold-temp camera as normal while enabling natural-language search across the rest of the fleet.

DS-7608NXI-I2/8P/VPro — 8CH · AcuSeek AI

An eight-channel VPro AcuSeek AI NVR with 8 integrated PoE ports — the usual platform for one cold-storage facility, a ski-resort top station or an alpine telecom site.

DS-7616NXI-I2/16P/VPro — 16CH · AcuSeek AI

Sixteen channels with PoE throughout — the right scale for a mid-size cold-storage warehouse, a cluster of abattoir chill-rooms or a multi-tower alpine site.

DS-7732NXI-I4/16P/VPro — 32CH · AcuSeek AI

Thirty-two channels with 16 PoE ports and 4 HDD bays — the standard VPro AcuSeek platform for industrial cold-supply-chain campuses, LNG plants and large multi-station ski-resort rollouts.

iDS-7716NXI-M4/16P/X — 16CH · DeepinMind

The DeepinMind X-Series is the strongest 16-channel AI NVR for sites mixing cold-temp and standard-temp cameras, with AcuSearch natural-language search available across the AcuSearch-capable cameras in the fleet.

Note: the camera draws no PoE power from any of the recorders above — its data travels over the PoE port's Ethernet, but power has to come from a separate local 12 VDC supply.

Compatible Mounts & Accessories

Hikvision DS-1475ZJ-SUS — Stainless Vertical Pole Mount

A 316-grade stainless vertical pole bracket — the standard partner for cold-room ceiling penetrations, alpine pole-top installs and ski-resort tower mounts, where the bracket itself has to survive repeated freeze-thaw cycling.

Hikvision DS-1476ZJ-SUS — Stainless Corner Mount

A 316-grade stainless corner bracket for placing the bullet on the corner of a chiller-room, abattoir cold-aisle or alpine mast cabinet, aimed down a perimeter line or processing aisle.

Hikvision DS-1275ZJ-S-SUS — Stainless Pendant Wall Mount

A 316-grade stainless pendant wall mount for suspending the bullet from a chill-room ceiling, freezer-aisle joist, alpine eaves or telecom-hut soffit. It works neatly with cable-gland penetrations from above.

Dedicated 12 VDC Power Supply (Sized for Cold-Start)

Budget for a weatherproof 12 VDC supply rated at 5 A continuous minimum, plus 15–20% headroom for the cold-boot heater surge. Industrial-grade DIN-rail supplies are the sensible choice on refrigerated and alpine sites.

WD Purple 256 GB Surveillance microSD

WD Purple cards are designed for round-the-clock surveillance write cycles and last far longer than consumer microSD. This is the recommended edge-recording card for the iDS-2CD8A46G0-IZ/UH, whose maximum capacity is 256 GB.

Cold-Rated Outdoor Ethernet (UV / Gel-Filled)

On freezer-room and alpine sites, run UV-stable, gel-filled Cat 6 outdoor cable — ordinary indoor jackets crack and PVC insulation turns brittle once temperatures drop.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this an ANPR camera?

No. The iDS-2CD8A46G0-IZ/UH is a perimeter-protection DeepinView camera covering line crossing, intrusion, region entrance and region exiting with human/vehicle classification. It has no LPR engine, no vehicle-attribute capture and no plate database. For on-camera number-plate recognition, specify the iDS-2CD7A46G2/P-IZHSY instead — the "/P" suffix is how Hikvision marks its ANPR models.

Where would I actually use a −60 °C camera in Australia?

In more places than most people assume. The common Australian applications are commercial cold-storage warehouses (typically held at −22 °C to −30 °C), flash-freeze tunnels in food processing (−35 °C to −40 °C), abattoir chillers and quarters-rooms, ice rinks, ski-resort chairlift top stations (often −15 °C ambient with sub-−30 °C wind chill at altitude), alpine telecom huts and mast cabinets in the Snowy Mountains and Tasmanian high country, LNG and cryogenic-gas plants, and Antarctic and sub-Antarctic research bases.

Why doesn't it support PoE?

Cold-boot heating plus sensor warm-up can pull as much as 51.4 W, more than 802.3af (15 W) or even 802.3at (25.5 W) PoE can dependably deliver at the far end of a 100 m run — particularly in the cold, where cable resistance climbs. Hikvision chose to leave PoE off this model altogether and standardise on direct 12 VDC so installers can size a proper cold-start supply.

What 12 VDC supply should I use?

At minimum 12 VDC ±10% at 5 A continuous, with 15–20% headroom for the cold-start surge — in practice a 12 V / 6 A or 8 A industrial DIN-rail supply. On cold-storage and alpine sites, pick a supply rated for the ambient conditions where the supply itself sits, usually inside a heated control cabinet. The camera includes reverse-polarity protection, but confirm polarity at the terminal block before commissioning regardless.

Does the heater run continuously?

No. Heater management is handled internally: the camera monitors front-window and sensor temperatures and only fires the heater when the imaging path needs clearing. In a mild 0 °C ambient, steady-state consumption sits well below the 51.4 W peak, which is reserved for cold-soak boots and active demist cycles. Size the supply for the worst case anyway.

Can I use it as an active-deterrence camera (strobe / speaker)?

No. This model has no strobe, no built-in speaker, no built-in microphone and no two-way audio. To add deterrence at a cold-environment site, deploy this camera as the perimeter sensor and put a separate AcuSense Smart Hybrid Light camera (with strobe and speaker) at the entry door or gate.

Does it support AcuSeek natural-language search?

Not natively. AcuSeek depends on camera-side metadata generation that this G0-architecture model predates. Recording to any modern Hikvision NVR over ONVIF/ISAPI is clean, but plain-English natural-language search will not be available across this camera's archive. AcuSeek-capable cameras on the same NVR behave as normal.

Is the AI Open Platform the same as HEOP 2.0?

It is the earlier generation of Hikvision's open AI platform, offering one model slot for a detection, classification or mixed model. Newer G2-generation cameras run HEOP 2.0 with greater on-camera compute and several concurrent models. For most cold-storage and alpine deployments a single model — commonly a PPE-on-personnel or stock-presence detector — does the job.

Does it record locally if the network drops?

Yes. It takes microSD up to 256 GB with ANR (Auto Network Replenishment) — should the link to the NVR fail, the camera keeps writing locally and automatically backfills the missing footage to the NVR drive once connectivity returns.

What's the maximum cable run from the 12 V supply?

It comes down to cable gauge. Roughly speaking, at the 51.4 W peak (~4.3 A at 12 V) you can expect about 3% voltage drop across 30 m of 18 AWG, 3% across 50 m of 16 AWG, and 3% across 80 m of 14 AWG. Past 50 m, either step up to 24 V at the supply with a 24 V → 12 V buck converter at the camera, or relocate the supply nearer the camera.

What warranty does it carry?

The camera comes with a 3-year Australian Hikvision warranty, serviced back-to-base through Hikvision Australia.
